CWSAN Acknowledges International Nurses Day – 12th May 2020

INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY – 12TH MAY 2020

In celebration of International Nurses day, CWSAN, the Rural Support Network in Mid Ulster in collaboration with CDM Community Transport today made deliveries to 15 local care homes of 60 baked Florence cakes. As part of a wider regional initiative this Florence commemorative cake was baked by Howells and delivered by the community sector to all Care Homes in solidarity with Staff who have been dealing with the Covid 19 crisis situation for some time. CWSAN added to this simple act of thanks by boosting the package adding in additional cakes to each delivery.

After a request to the community sector, the network had been inundated with offers to carry out deliveries by local volunteers. CDM provided it’s Community Transport service and vetted drivers and subsequently delivered throughout the Mid Ulster region from Maghera to Kildress. Rosaleen Hanna, Chairperson of CWSAN thanked the Care Home Transformation team of NMAHP for initiating the idea and paid particular thanks to the many community and voluntary volunteers who offered their services. “ it is at times like this that we can count on the community sector, who to date, has shown remarkable dedication to assisting the community during this crisis by making weekly deliveries to those shielded and setting up food banks for those in need. I want to thank CDM particularly for their help on this occasion.”

Chief Nursing Officer, Charlotte McArdle said  “ we are pleased to be able to send to every Nursing and Residential Care Home In Northern Ireland, a small token of our appreciation for the professionalism, skill and compassion that you are providing to the people in your care. On this 200th Anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, it is important that we acknowledge the value of the nursing care and support provided to all people living in nursing and residential care homes.  This care is provided by the nurses, by the care assistants, by the cleaners and by the cooks. Florence Nightingale is famous for her work to promote sanitary conditions for the care of the sick and our modern approach to Infection Prevention and Control is at the heart of our response to this current pandemic. Thank you for your continued effort in these difficult times. Thank you also to Howells Bakery for baking enough Florence Cakes to deliver to every Care Home and thank you to the small army of volunteer drivers from the Community and Voluntary Sector organisation who have assisted us with delivery”
